Frequently Asked Questions

HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO WAIT FOR HOUSING? It varies different times of the year. Currently the wait is ­­0 to 14 Days, depending on your particular needs. It is always a good idea to apply for housing 30 to 60 days before arriving in New Orleans. Housing addresses can be assigned before your arrival. Housing assignments however can not be made until the DON Housing Office receives your application and refers you to Patrician Management.

WHAT SERVICES ARE INCLUDED FOR MY BAH PAYMENT? Rent, all Utilities and Renter’s Insurance for your personal belongings. There is a Community Center on site at NAS which is available for parties and meetings to all residents at no charge. Reservations are available first come, first serve. Two lots are available for reserved parking of Boats, Trailers and RV’s at no charge. Parking by permit only, first come, first serve. Lawn and exterminating services are also provided at no additional charge.

CAN I BRING MY PET? Yes, pets are allowed, with some restrictions in all units. Two pets per household are allowed. You can have cats or dogs. No ferrets or exotics such as snakes are allowed. Certain dog breeds are not allowed. Cats only in second floor 2 bedroom flats.

CAN I CHOOSE EITHER BASE FOR MY RESIDENCE REGARDLESS OF WHERE I WORK? Yes, you can choose between Naval Support Activity in Algiers or Naval Air Station in Belle Chasse.

WHAT MONIES ARE DUE UPON LEASE SIGNING? If you choose to start an allotment for your rental payments the deposit will be waived and only a prorated rent amount for your move-in month will be due. An allotment can be set up after you move in. If you choose to pay your rent by check with no plan to start an allotment after move in, you will need a check for your rent and a separate check for the $250.00 deposit. You will also need a check for your first month of cable, if you choose to have cable TV services. Cable is $31.00 per month or .89 per day if prorated for a partial month.

HOW DO I APPLY FOR HOUSING? You can obtain the Housing application on line by going to www.housing.navy.mil It is located under forms and is form number DD1746. You will also need to submit a copy of your Page 2 and your orders with the Housing Application. You can also obtain an application from your local housing office or by calling 678-2224 (add area code 504 if you are not using a DSN line) After completing the application, FAX all of your documents to (504) 678-2403. These numbers are for the New Orleans DON Housing Office.
